Ross O'Carroll Kelly (Paul Howard) at The Eblana
This coming Thursday 16th January the writer Ross O'Carroll Kelly (Paul Howard) will address the Eblana Club, DÙN LAOGHAIRE, commencing 7.30p.m. All are welcome to attend and join in a discussion on his books and IRISH TIMES articles.
As a large attendance is expected, it is advisable to arrive early for the best seats in the club.
New President elected at the Club AGM
Last night's AGM of the Eblana Club was the best attended in living memory.
Exactly 50 members were registered as attending.
The presence of club admin. person, Sheila, at the door added a professional look to the night.
The meeting conferred Honorary Life Memberships on outgoing President, Tom Byrne and on former president (twice President) on Jim Mackle. In accordance with the club's constitution this was passed unanimously by the AGM having previously been agreed unanimously at the club board.
Both new Honorary Life Members have contributed significantly to the growing popularity and success of the club.
The financial report, presented by Dermot Fennell, was very encouraging and showed a very significant increase in bar sales and club turnover in general.
The huge increase in membership during recent years - we have gone from the traditional circa 80 members to the current number which is approaching 150. Significant increases in membership came from those attending the talks / debates and the various music sessions and we gained a few additional snooker players. The new talent coming through is reflected in the composition of the incoming Board of Directors which was elected last night. The incoming President/Chairman is Richard Carolan jnr (3rd generation of his family in membership) and the new company secretary is James Ryan (JR). The foundation principles of the club in 1910 and reaffirmed in 1960 on the 50th anniversary and again on the centenary year in 2010 makes the club distinctive from all others, it is a place where people of all origins can meet and socialise together- and that is as relevant today as it was in 1910.
